You don't have permission to save in this location in Windows 10: fix it now!
In this article you will find out:
- how to deal with this issue
- how to protect your data
Are you ready? Let's read!
Before fixing the “you don't have permission to save in this location” error on your computer, you must first protect your personal data
You can create an image of the disk for future experiments, restore all possible data, or make corrupted data available for viewing in Explorer.
All these actions are possible right now and thanks to only one professional application - DiskInternals Partition Recovery. This tool works with all versions of Windows 8/ 7 / 8.1 / XP / 10, etc., supports the following file systems (with the ability to convert them for a more detailed analysis of missing data): FAT32, UFS, HFS, NTFS, XFS, Ext2 / 3/4, ReiserFS, FAT12, ReFS, Reiser4, etc.
Here you can also use the Recovery Wizard, which is very practical if you are recovering a disk or partition for the first time. Download the free promo version at any convenient time from the official website and try to recover and view the data for free. Below are detailed instructions that will help you quickly and efficiently recover data from a hard disk or other storage device:
Step 1. Install and run the advertising version of DiskInternals Partition Recovery; then the program will automatically detect all disks on the computer - select the disk you want to recover.
Step 2. The Recovery Wizard will ask you to determine the type of files to be recovered or simply ask you to skip this step and search for files by type after scanning.
Step 3. Scanning, await the results for some time (depending on the size of the disk).
Step 4. Preview of the recovered files and the actual recovery are free for each client.

Step 5. Save the files by exporting to a new location to avoid data overwriting. By purchasing a license for this product on the company's website, you will receive a license key. Then click the Save button to launch the Export Wizard and complete the process that you started.
The administrator must have full control over the problem folder
You can do this as follows:
Right-click the desired folder and select Properties. Next, go to the "Security" tab, click "Edit" and select "Administrators". Now check the "Full Control" box and click Apply and OK to save these changes.
Then go to the Security section and select the Users group and repeat the above steps to grant full access.
Note: It is not recommended to change permissions for system folders, as this may cause other problems to appear.
If that doesn't work, you can give full control to your user profile. Open the "Security" tab, as shown in the previous steps, and click "Edit." Then click the "Add" button, select the "Enter the object names" field. Next, enter your username and click the Check Names button. Next, select Full Control and save your changes.
Another solution to the problem “you do not have permission to save in this location” is to run the problematic program as an administrator.
So, right-click the problematic application and click on the option Run as administrator. Now you should be able to save files without any problems.
If this solution helped, you need to configure the application so that it always runs with administrator rights:
In the Properties of the problem application, go to the Compatibility tab and activate the Run this program as administrator option, save the changes.
Another option to fix this problem is to add your account to the Administrators group. To do this, press Windows Key + R and type netplwiz.
In the new window, check the box Users must enter a username and password to use this computer option. Then open your user profile, click Properties and go to the Group Membership tab. Then select "Administrator" and save the changes.
Now click "Apply" and "OK" to save the changes. After that, restart your computer and try to save the problem files again - you should be fine.
Turn off account
User Account Control is a useful security feature that alerts you when you or an application attempt to perform an action that requires administrator rights. However, this can interfere with the operation of the system and cause the error “Windows 10 you don't have permission to save in this location” to appear. Usually, if you disable this feature, your computer does not become more vulnerable. So, to deactivate the User Account Control option, do the following:
Press Windows Key + S, enter your user account and click OK. Next, select "Change User Account Control Settings", then select Never notify, and click OK.
Now your problem should be gone, you can save previously problematic folders anywhere.
Try another browser
The most common error “don't have permission to save” appears when you try to save files using the Microsoft Edge browser. Therefore, try using a different browser to fix the problem.
Examine protection
Some antivirus tools are known to block certain folders to prevent malicious files from accessing them. Therefore, it is likely that it is your antivirus that prevents access to these directories.
In this case, you should check the antivirus settings and disable the functions that prevent access to files. If your antivirus does not have such a function, then you should temporarily disable the antivirus. If that helps, you can uninstall your antivirus and switch to a different antivirus solution.
Turn off protected mode
If your problem occurs while using a web browser, try turning off protected mode. To do this, Windows Key + R and type inetcpl.cpl, press OK or press Enter.
On the tab "Security" and deactivate the "Enable Protected Mode" option, save the changes and restart your browser.
Try new directory
If you don't have permission to save in this location, you can fix it using a workaround - Create a new directory and move all files into it.
Note: this method is very dangerous for system files, as some directories will be deleted.
You can simply save the Alternatively, file elsewhere and then move it. It won't take long, so give it a try.
Also, can help with changing the owner of the directory.
To do this, click the right-problematic directory and select Properties. On the tab "Security", click "Advanced", then click on the Change button. In addition to admins, you can also use your own username or email address associated with your Microsoft account. Then activate the functions "Replace owner for subcontainers and objects" and "Replace all permission settings for child objects", save the changes.
According to many users, you can fix the “it looks like you don't have permission to save changes to this file” problem simply by sharing the directory with the admin group.
Troubleshooting
The compatibility troubleshooter can also help you save files.
To do this, find the problematic application and right-click it. Select the Troubleshoot compatibility option. In the new window, next check the box "This program requires additional permissions" and click "Next" to complete the troubleshooting.
Once you're done troubleshooting, restart your computer and you should be able to save files without any problems.
