DiskInternals Recovers BitLocker Volumes

DiskInternals updates its flagship product, Diskinternals EFS Recovery, with industry-first BitLocker recovery feature, making EFS Recovery the first commercially available tool for recovering information from BitLocker-protected volumes. The new feature enables users to recover files and folders from BitLocker-encrypted volumes, and allows repairing damaged or corrupted BitLocker disks, including removable drives protected with BitLocker To Go.

Diskinternals EFS Recovery is fully compatible with BitLocker encryption used in Windows Vista (BitLocker 1.0) and Windows 7 (BitLocker 2.0) as well as 2003 and 2008 Server R1/R2. The tool can access BitLocker volumes when running on Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server, Windows Vista, 2008 Server, and Windows 7, and allows recovering encrypted volumes even if the disk has been moved into a different PC running an earlier version of Windows. Diskinternals EFS Recovery supports all types of fixed and removable BitLocker volumes.

EFS Recovery requires a matching volume Recovery Key to access encrypted volumes, and supports all modern and legacy versions of Windows with or without native support for BitLocker volumes.

About BitLocker

BitLocker is an encryption technology used by Microsoft to encrypt the contents of disk volumes in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Unlike Encrypted File System (EFS) that works with individual files and folders, BitLocker deals with entire volumes sector by sector.

BitLocker volumes can be protected with user-selected passwords, or accessed transparently if Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware or an external USB key is available. In either case, a volume Recovery Key is made available to the user should the need to recover the encrypted volume arise.

Diskinternals EFS Recovery requires the original user-selected password or volume Recovery Key in order to access BitLocker-encrypted volumes. The recovery is not possible without a valid Recovery Key or password.

About Diskinternals EFS Recovery

Diskinternals EFS Recovery is the first commercially available tool to recover BitLocker volumes. The tool allows recovering corrupted BitLocker volumes, as well as undeleting files and folders stored in encrypted disks and partitions created by Windows Vista or Windows 7 using BitLocker 1.0, 2.0, or BitLocker To Go. EFS Recovery can be run on a legacy version of Windows with no native BitLocker support, and supports all kinds of upgrade and downgrade scenarios, allowing users to recover encrypted volumes even if they downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows XP.

Diskinternals EFS Recovery offers fully automated data recovery for all types of information protected with BitLocker and EFS algorithms, locating and recovering deleted files and folders from healthy, damaged, or inaccessible volumes. The correct password or BitLocker Recovery Key is always required. In case of EFS, if the account password has been changed in the past, any one of previously used passwords can be entered into EFS Recovery to access encrypted information.

Both full and free versions of Diskinternals EFS Recovery come with built-in pre-recovery preview, enabling users to preview recoverable files in live mode. The preview can display documents and pictures, play back video and audio files, and enter compressed archives.
