DiskInternals Uneraser Adds Data Recovery Support for exFAT Drives

DiskInternals updates Uneraser, a comprehensive data recovery suite, with exFAT support. The support of the new file system makes Uneraser the first product on the market to be able to recover lost and deleted files and folders from SDXC and Sony Memory Stick XC series memory cards. In addition, Uneraser enables users of pre-Windows Vista systems to access exFAT formatted devices such as SDXC and Memory Stick XC cards.

About Uneraser

DiskInternals Uneraser undeletes erased files and folders, and recovers information lost from hard disks, external storage devices, and a variety of memory cards. Featuring proprietary data recovery algorithms such as PowerSearch, DiskInternals Uneraser is able to recover files and folders from severely damaged, formatted, repartitioned, and inaccessible media. PowerSearch performs comprehensive scan of the entire content of the disk or memory card being recovered in order to locate the beginning and end of each recoverable file. The technology matches information it reads from the disk against a built-in database of recognizable file formats, enabling DiskInternals Uneraser to detect the exact length and location of more than 150 types of files.

The free trial version of Uneraser is available with full pre-recovery preview, enabling evaluation customers to get a free estimate of whether or not their files are recoverable.

The support of the new exFAT file system not only provides state-of-the-art data recovery to owners of of exFAT formatted devices such as SDXC and Memory Stick XC cards, but enables the users of older systems to read information from such cards even if their operating system does not support the new file system.

About exFAT

Released with Windows CE 6.0 and available as part of Windows Vista SP1, the exFAT file system extends the limits of the FAT file system used on many external storage devices such as memory cards, DVDs and high-resolution media. The new file system eliminated the 32 GB size limits and files per directory limits of the popular FAT32 system. Used with flash memory storage and other external devices, exFAT enables using extra-large volumes of up to 64 ZiB (1 ZiB = 2^70 bytes). In addition, exFAT takes care of fragmentation problems, and specifies fail-safe transaction mechanisms and access control lists (ACL) for user-based access restrictions to certain files and folders. In essence, exFAT is a light version of feature-rich yet computational-heavy NTFS file system specified for external storage.

The new Memory Stick XC format series ("XC series") released on January 29, 2009, as well as SDXC memory cards are using the exFAT file system. The use of the new file system allows these memory card formats to achieve maximum 2TB capacity, 64 times larger than that of previously largest 32GB cards using FAT12/16/32.
